It all started when a few friends got together to grow some vines

Pebblebed started as a community project when in 1999 11 local local families under the direction of Geoff Bowen came together to plant the first half acre of vines in an idillic setting just to the South of Exeter in Devon.

From these beginnings, Geoff and his wife Anna quickly realised their passion for viticulture and with considerable help from the community and local farmers, Pebblebed has grown to more than 20 acres of vineyards and now has a modern winery. In a good year close to 50,000 bottles of Devon wines are produced.

At Pebblebed we produce both sparkling and still wines and regularly win medals and awards in local and national competitions.  In particular, English Sparkling is now widely recognised as some of the best in the World and tastings have shown Pebblebed Sparkling is amongst the best in England.  However we are proud of our still white, rose and pinot noir red which definitely need tasting!

Our vineyards are managed with careful attention to encouraging wildlife and reducing the impact of farming on the environment. Pebblebed wines are similarly made with great attention to detail and in a “natural” way with the minimum use additives to best exhibit our great Devon “terroir”.

Pebblebed very much encourages visitors and volunteer helpers to enjoy discovering its vineyards and wines.  We welcome visitors to our vineyards and winery at Clyst St George just 5 minutes from the M5 at Exeter from May to September (thursday to Saturday 11am till 3pm by prior appointment) with guided tours and expert tastings at specific times.  We also have a wine cellar bar (restricted opening times) in the historic old port of Topsham 5 minutes drive from the winery where our wines can also be tasted and purchased.

In late September and October we harvest our grapes with the help of community volunteers (more than 500 last year) with plenty of festivities including grape treading and refreshment!

In 2010 Geoff and Pebblebed successfully featured on the TV programme Dragons Den gaining the support of Duncan Bannatyne in our Partner Vineyard project which has allowed interested people to join in from planting to harvest and to enjoy a unique vineyard experience.
